CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SMILES

A LEGACY OF CONFIDENCE

We are proud to announce 50 years of creating beautiful smiles in Amarillo and its surrounding communities! Dr. “Tony” Harwell (Dr. Anthony’s father) moved from Houston to Amarillo in 1975 and worked one year with Dr. JW Barnett before opening his first practice on Teckla Street.

Through the support of local dentists and local patients, this office on Teckla reached its capacity, and Dr. Tony Harwell decided it was time to open Harwell Orthodontics at the current location at 3420 Thornton Street.

It was in that very office that Dr. Anthony Harwell, Dr. Tony’s son, discovered his own passion for orthodontics—spending his teenage years in the lab, learning the craft, and building retainers. As demand grew, Dr. Tony expanded the practice into Pampa and Borger, reaching even more families in the region.

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SMILES

(CONT. FROM FRONT)

In 1998, Dr. Anthony Harwell returned to Amarillo to join his father, and together they formed Harwell & Harwell Orthodontics. Over the next decade, they became deeply involved in the community, founding the Harwell & Harwell Orthodontic Scholarship (2002) and launching the Smile 4 Life Amarillo nonprofit chapter. In 2000, they answered the call from local dentists and opened a practice in Guymon, OK to meet the growing need for quality orthodontic care.

When Dr. Tony Harwell retired in 2014, Dr. Tanner Cook joined the practice, bringing fresh energy and a shared commitment to excellence. Raised just a few hours away, Dr. Cook was eager to return to the Panhandle and serve the community close to home.

Together, Dr. Harwell and Dr. Cook expanded Harwell & Cook Orthodontics into Dalhart, Childress, Hereford, and Perryton in 2021. Today, it’s not uncommon for our team to treat the grandchildren of Dr. Tony Harwell’s original patients—a true testament to the trust and loyalty of the families we serve. We are honored and humbled to have cared for generations of patients throughout the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles.

HERE'S TO 50 YEARS OF SMILES - AND TO MANY MORE TO COME!
